The paleo diet has been gaining in popularity over the past few years. Celebrities like Megan Fox and Matthew McConaughey have endorsed the effectiveness of this diet, but the paleo diet is far from a novelty. Devised in the 1970s by doctor Walter Voegtlin, this diet claims that many health benefits can derive from eating in a way similar to that of our ancestors. This diet is based on the premise that in hunter-gatherer societies, modern diseases like diabetes, cancer, or cardiovascular disease were rare, so going back to the staples eaten regularly in Paleolithic times can help reduce the risk of developing these diseases.
